On Oct. 8, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School homecoming pep rally took place. Due to construction on the football field to lay out new turf and track, the usual beginning-of-the-year pep rally was canceled, but the homecoming pep rally went on as scheduled.
The first pep rally of 2019-20 did not disappoint, with band and Colorguard performing the usual songs that welcomed students filing into the bleachers. The cheerleaders were in beautiful formation, and the pink pom-poms were a lovely touch. They also delivered an outstanding performance, complete with kicks, flips, and lifting each other into the air with no accidents.
The beloved Blue Diamond step team performed incredibly, fooling both the audience and the announcer by declaring that they were done early, before surprising them with more members joining the fray and dancing some more.
The acapella choir The Sensations experienced some technical issues pertaining to the microphones and the speakers constantly cutting out, but the audience was kindly clapping and cheering to encourage the group to continue. They sang the song “Location” by Khalid beautifully.
The homecoming King and Queens were also announced. The nominees for homecoming King are seniors Noah Samms, Justin Williams, Devin Warbeck, Justin Clarke, Mason Glod, Connor Alchus, and Harrison Wustefeld. The homecoming Queen nominees were Cheyenne Jones, Antonette Chango, Joy Lytch, Gab Aloe, Gabriella Klausner, and Catherine Buren. Their names and some information about them was announced by senior class president Chris Muskus and junior Mac Ferrone, known for his dramatic and humorous reading of any script, which was popular with the audience during the pep rally.
A few members of the student council, ranging from seniors to sophomores, also stood in front of the students introducing themselves and making a few announcements, one of them being that voting for homecoming King and Queen will be on Thursday. Ferrone humored the crowd again by repeating the announcement, adding “No exceptions!”
The 2019-20 pep rally was lots of fun, super entertaining, and a great start to the school year!
