On Feb 4., the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Consumer Bowl team won their first ever Union County Consumer Bowl championship in the event hosted in the SPFHS media center.
“Consumer Bowl is a statewide event by the New Jersey Department Consumer Affairs,” Consumer Bowl advisor Marjorie Fitzgibbon told The Fanscotian. “They want high school students to be aware of what their rights are as a consumer.”
The team consisted of five sophomores: Vandit Bhatia, Kaya Desai, Ben Lipsky, Emma Pisarchik and Enzo Primiano. Primiano, who is the captain of the team, led the group in studying and preparing for the competition.
“I took one of the DECA students, Enzo Primiano, and asked him if he wanted to make a team,” Fitzgibbon said. “He said yes, and they broke up a study plan that turned out to work great for them.”
Despite being only the third time SPF has entered the competition, the Raiders decisively took first place, beating opponents such as Governor Livingston, Linden and Jonathan Dayton by a 40-point margin.
“I’m just so proud of them because It wasn’t just that they won, they won by a lot,” Fitzibbon said.
Now crowned as Union County champions, Primiano and the Consumer Bowl team will advance to the regional competition where they will be representing Union County, while facing off against the rest of the states’ county winners.
