The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Ministerium will be hosting the CROP Hunger Walk at the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School’s track on Sunday, Nov. 9, at noon.
Registration and informational tables will be available at noon, following announcements, blessing and the kick-off at 1 p.m. The walk is a full three miles; however, participants are not required to walk the whole of the event. Students are strongly encouraged to attend.
All funds raised will support local food banks and global hunger relief efforts. While most proceeds will go towards international projects, 25% will go to families right here in Scotch Plains and Fanwood.
For those who cannot attend, they may still participate by doing a “solo walk” and soliciting donations, volunteering or donating directly to the cause. Participants may register individually or form a team, as well as donate here. Checks are also payable to “CWS/CROP” and can be turned in on the day of the event or during November.
According to nj.gov, an estimated 10.9% of the residents of Union County, NJ, experience food insecurity. The CROP Hunger Walk works to support local families and the 47 million people in America who struggle to access consistent, nutritious food.
Every mile walked on Nov. 9 will honor the millions of people globally who walk for miles each day to access simple resources. Each mile is one closer to a world where no one goes hungry.
