On Friday, April 24, 2026, students and chaperones set out on their trek to historical Quebec, Canada and returned Sunday, April 26, 2026. This non-school sponsored trip takes students on an immersive experience exploring old Quebec, Chateau-Frontenac, museums, rue Saint-Jean and more. The activities were all orchestrated by Prometour and the French Department, eliciting a unique and action-filled schedule.
On Friday, students arrived at SPFHS at 5 a.m. to check in luggage and prepare for departure. The bus left at around 5:40 a.m. for the 10-hour journey, stopping at the New Baltimore service area for a quick breakfast. Afterward, students continued on for another eight hours without stops, as there was a bathroom on board. Around 4 or 5 p.m., students made a brief stop at McDonald’s arriving in Quebec City.
After checking in at the hotel, the group met their tour guide for the trip, JC, who led students on a walking tour of the city. Students were able to see the Parliament, historic churches and le casse cou (or “breakneck” stairs.)
After this tour, students headed to the restaurant “Chez Victor,” where they were served chicken burgers, fries, brownies for dessert and a drink of their choice. After finishing their meals, students headed back to the hotel for a night in, with curfew at 11 p.m..
Saturday, students woke up at 7:00 a.m. and enjoyed a cozy hotel breakfast from 7:15-8:15 a.m., which featured a variety of selections including crepes, pastries and more. Around 8:30 a.m., students boarded the bus and headed to Immersion Quebec, where students experienced a virtual reality simulation, bringing the city’s history to life.
“I like seeing the simulation rather than just hearing about it,” junior Lucas Lugo said. “It was better to see it happening in front of me.”
Afterward, students were given free time to explore Old Quebec on their own, allowing them to walk through the historic streets, shop and have lunch individually. Later on in the day, after their adventures, the group went to the Museum of Abraham, a reenactment of British and French generals before ending the day with a traditional sugar shack, where students were able to experience classic Canadian culture and meals.
“It was really cool to see how maple syrup is made, and I really enjoyed making our own maple syrup taffy,” sophomore Olivia Doga told The Fanscotian.
On Sunday morning, students had breakfast at 7 a.m. before departing from the hotel for a guided tour of the Château Frontenac. Following the tour, some students chose to walk to a nearby restaurant— guided by Madame Gilbert, Mrs. Ritter and Madame Ozedemir— while others chose the scenic funicular ride led by JC.
After lunch, the group began the ride home, making a stop at a duty-free shop along the way. The bus continued on, later stopping at the New Baltimore Service area again for dinner and another for a driver change. Students arrived at SPFHS at approximately 11:40p.m., marking the end of an eventful, yet tiring, weekend.
