Take Your Child To Work Day occurred on April 23, and many students at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School went to a parent’s or guardian’s work.
Teachers brought their child in to take a look at what their day-to-day schedule looks like.
Students spent the day shadowing parents, relatives and mentors at their workplaces.
The event gives students chances to see how school connects to life outside the classroom.
It also helps them start thinking about their future careers.
“It was definitely an experience! Trying to keep track of 17-24 students on a normal day is hard enough, let alone keeping track of my own girls,” Michael Hergenhan, a math teacher at SPFHS, said.
As students came back to school, they talked about different jobs and experiences they experienced.
Some students said the day helped them better understand what certain careers are really like; others discovered new interests they had not considered before.
“Honestly, Take Your Child to Work Day was a nice reprieve from that, since I could focus so much more on my daughters during the day and work towards making the experience as fun for them as I could,” Hergenhan said.
Take Your Child to Work Day continues to give SPFHS students a meaningful look into the working world, helping them connect their education to future goals and real-life opportunities.
