Caution: Spoiler Ahead
Maxton Hall season two was released on Nov, 7, 2025. The first three episodes dropped on the date, with the remaining episodes releasing weekly until the finale on Nov, 28, 2025.
Based on Mona Kasten’s bestselling Save book series, the new season brings back the main stars Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) and James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), while expanding the world around them with even more tension, drama and emotional moments.
The season picks up right after the dramatic ending of season one. Ruby is trying to pressure her academic future, while James is still coping with the loss of his mother.
Struggling with grief, James gets drunk at a party and cheats on Ruby.
Harriet Herbig-Matten gives a strong performance, showing her determination, emotional vulnerability and resilience under pressure.
Damien Hardung also stands out as James, capturing both his skill over his actions as his struggle to do with his father‘s strict control.
The supporting cast adds more depth to the season. Fedja van Huêt plays James’ father, a strict and controlling figure who believes Ruby is a bad influence on James in one intense storyline.
He punishes Ruby by almost taking away her scholarship and forcing her mother to lose her job and their family bakery, placing Ruby’s whole family under enormous stress.
Sonja Weißer portrays Lydia, James’ sister, who brings perspective to the story and tries to support both Ruby and James during these conflicts.
There were also several moments that genuinely surprised me. James’ father’s actions created some of the most shocking scenes, and the aftermath of Ruby seeing James cheat made their relationship feel even more fragile.
The tension stayed high throughout the season as personal struggles, betrayals and misunderstandings kept the characters on edge.
The visuals and setting continue to be amazing. The hall of Maxton, the lighting and the soundtrack all create an atmosphere that matches the story’s emotional highs and lows.
However, I didn’t like how the season ended. Ruby was unfairly blamed for having an affair with a teacher, and the consequences felt extreme and undeserved.
She lost her scholarship and now won’t be able to go to Oxford, which made the finale feel frustrating and disappointing after everything she had been through.
Overall, Maxton Hall season two is dramatic, powerful and emotional, but the ending left me feeling unsatisfied. I would give it a four out of five stars.
