The New York Giants blew one too many leads last season, as many fans may know. But the majority of the defensive struggles weren’t at the fault of star tackle Dexter Lawrence II. For those who don’t know, “Sexy Dexy” is a 6’4”, 340 lb unit for the Giants on defense. The 28-year-old was drafted by the Giants at 17th overall in the first round back in 2019 and hasn’t looked back since.
A consistent force on defense, Lawrence has racked up a rock solid resume that consists of three pro bowl appearances, two all pro teams and a top 10 finish in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2023. With 30.5 career sacks and 341 total tackles, Lawrence is a respected player amongst his NFC East peers.
Recently though, on April 6, 2026, Lawrence announced that he would be requesting a trade from the Giants. The announcement “didn’t come as a surprise” according to insiders and coaches like Adam Schefter and John Harbaugh.
As a star player with a healthy amount of his career left, Lawrence is a loss that saddens Giants fans. Even his new coach John Harbaugh claimed that he was “really important” in a February interview. That reflects the kind of person and player Lawrence is and the influence he could bring to a new franchise.
Giants fans, like SPFHS junior Connor Hayeck, look to the future.
“[We] definitely need somebody in the secondary. That was our weakest point last year, and we could use help. We’ve been making some good moves, so this year is going to be a big year,” Hayeck said.
While the Giants look forward, so does Lawrence. Possible landing spots include the Texans, Chargers and Patriots. One thing is for sure, and that’s wherever he goes, he’ll have a positive impact.
