The Lady Raiders Basketball team had a big win on Tuesday, Jan. 8th with a thrilling game against Linden 49- 17. The starters were sophomores Ryann Wall and Corinne Lyght, seniors Stephanie DeVizio and Hannah Lyman, as well as freshman Leah Klurman. The game started off with Linden holding possession, but that quickly changed with a steal from Lyght. The girls started off hot scoring 12 points in the first quarter. The young team worked together and played a great game.
As the second quarter rolled around, the Lady Raiders showed no signs of stopping. What really set apart the team was their amazing defense. The girl’s endless turnarounds and changes in possession really gave them an edge throughout the game. The third quarter showed the continuation of the girl’s stellar defense and abilities to work together.
“We are a young team” Lyght said “We are gaining more confidence as the season goes and it is starting to play in more competitive games.
Lyght started off strong and did not sway in their determination the entire game. Throughout the game she scored 11 points and had six rebounds, four steals and two assists, with sophomore Madison StaRosa adding nine points with three 3 pointers. These sophomore powerhouses really showed their raider spirit gaining points left and right for the Raiders.
“We are gaining more confidence as the season goes” Lyght said. “In this game we were able to get a lot of people in and score a ton of points”.
By the fourth quarter the girls got their energy back by loading up the board with points. The game ended with a score of 17-49, an amazing win for the Lady Raiders. The young players of this team were really the stars of this game.
