The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Junior Varsity boys basketball team lost a close contest to Governor Livingston on Jan 30th at Governor Livingston High School.
It was a slow start for both offenses, as neither team scored until the middle of the first quarter. Eventually, the offense progressed throughout the first half thanks to inside play from junior Miles Owens and the three point shooting of junior Nick Merkel. Junior Danny Wright was able to make plays off the dribble and had many assists to help the offense get flowing.
Governor Livingston had a slim four point lead headed into the locker room and the game stayed tightly contested throughout.
The Raiders continued to battle late in the second half. The defense held Governor Livingston to a poor shot percentage in the third quarter, which led to some easy transition baskets for the Raiders.
In the fourth quarter, it was a back and forth. At times it looked as if the Raiders would be able to go on a run and pull away for the victory, but Governor Livingston never quit. Thanks to timely shots by Governor Livingston, then team was able to come out on top with a two point victory.
The Raiders look to improve from this loss and have high expectations for their upcoming games.
