Senior David Walker, the 2016-17 SPFHS Male Senior Athlete of the Year, has been named to the 2017 US Lacrosse High School All-American and All-Academic Team.
This is the second year in a row that Walker has been named to the team. It is the first time in New Jersey history that a player has been named to the team.
Along with being the 2016-17 SPFHS Male Senior Athlete of the Year and two-time Academic All-American, Walker was also the SPFHS Male UCIAC Scholar Athlete for 2016-17, second team All-Division in 2015, first team All-Division in 2016 and 2017 and first team All-State in 2016 and 2017.
“He’s going to go down as the most decorated Raider player we’ve ever had award wise,” boys lacrosse head coach Nick Miceli said.
Miceli believes Walker’s success on the field and in the classroom is a result of his hard work and time management skills.
“I think it comes back to values and having a good head on your shoulders,” Miceli said. “We talk about all the time ‘think before you do’. Well, it’s a tough thing to have as high schoolers. Time management, and really balancing yourself, you can get so caught up in the social scene or what’s going on at school, and it might be hard. You might really excel in one but not the other and he does a tremendous job of those things.”
Walker was the only junior from New Jersey selected to the 2016 All-American and All-Academic Team. He will continuing his academic and athletic career at Rutgers University where he will be playing lacrosse.
