The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School ice hockey team faced a tough loss against Cranford on Tuesday Jan 24, with a final score of 8-6.
The Raiders began the first period fighting an uphill battle, as Cranford scored their first goal within a few minutes of game play and showed a tenacious effort to keep scoring. Goalie, freshman Ryan Lamberta, continued to deflect countless shots by Cranford.
In the middle of second period, SPF began a swift come back. Assisted by Senior Jared Figueroa and Nick Lavin scored the first goal of the game for the raiders. Soon after, Figueroa scored the Raider’s second goal, followed by Sophomore Jake Hogan who scored the third goal for the team. The second period ended with a final score of 6 to 3, Cranford still with a slight lead over SPF.
The Raiders showed their teamwork and fluidity in the third period, scoring three more goals. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to secure the team a win, coming out of the game with a win, loss, tie record of 5-12-4.
