The Raiders Winter Track & Field team competed in Union County Championships at the Jersey City National Guard Armory on Saturday, Jan. 28.
This was the first meet of the competitive individual season, following a good showing in relay events. Last week the boys shuttle hurdle relay team– senior Ian MacPherson starting, followed by junior Dhvanil Nanshah, senior Jumar Etkins and sophomore Kyle Estivene anchoring– won fourth in Group IV of New Jersey with 32.15. The decision of whether or not the relay team qualified for New Balance Winter Nationals is pending.
Kyle Estivene ranks fourth in the county for boys 55m hurdles. Senior Wilda Francois and junior Emily Gonyou rank fifth and tenth for girls 55m hurdles, respectively.
Junior Amanda Logie represented the team well in the 800m, and junior Maddy Bord won gold in the 3200m, taking first place in the county.
The girls 4x400m team won their heat, comprising junior Rosella Cuomo starting, Trinity Hart second, Wilda Francois third and Emily Gonyou anchoring. The boys team ran in the seeded heat and included sophomore Graham McAlindin, sophomore Tyler Erath, senior Jumar Etkins and junior Justin Sanders.
