Friday night, Jan. 27, the Raiders varsity wrestling team defeated Linden 51-18. The match featured impressive wrestling from many key members of the team.
“The big standout of the night I would say is Jeremy Lenart,” Coach Marc Fabiano said. “He’s really turning a corner and had a big win today.”
There were several others that he noted were instrumental in the night’s win, including, but not limited to, juniors Robert Mount, Mikey Ramos, Nick Palazzola and sophomore Alex Oslislo.
“[They] all wrestled really tough, picking up wins when we needed them the most,” Fabiano said.
Overall, the team has been doing much better with their positions in tight spots and movement on their feet. However, there are still areas for improvement, even after such a successful match.
“One thing that we need to work on is our offensive, defensive, and conditioning,” Fabiano explained. “That’s a constant thing that we’re definitely working on.”
The wrestling team will soon be moving into state sectionals and individual season.
“Hopefully, these guys are going to start peaking at the right time with the next couple matches and get ready for districts,” Fabiano said.
He is optimistic that at least some of them will place in districts and move to regions, with possibly a few even making states.
“The meet was outstanding,” Fabiano stated to sum up the night.
The boys hope to continue the same winning streak throughout the rest of the season.
