The third seeded Raiders girls soccer team breezed past the sixth seeded Elizabeth Minutemen 7-0 in the second round of the NJSIAA Group IV, North II tournament on Friday Nov. 4 at Wexler Field.
“I was happy we won,” said head coach Kevin Ewing. “The kids played hard and we are happy to move on.”
The Raiders got on the scoresheet early on as senior captain Christina Rodgers and junior Kerri McNeely put the Raiders up by two goals with the first twenty minutes of the half. Juniors Amanda Logie, Sabrina DiLollo, Erika Muskus, Isabella Corsaro, and sophomore Gabby Kowalczyk racked up more goals to add to the final score.
By getting out to an early lead and continuing to put the game out of reach, Ewing was able to mix up his lineup, getting his veterans some rest and his underclassman valuable game time in a sectional game.
“It was a good feeling to rest kids and get some younger kids in the game and get some experience,” said Ewing.
The Raiders, who advanced to 17-0-3 on the season, now play at second-seeded Watchung Hills in the semifinals of the sectional tournament on Nov. 8.
“Well next game it is the sectional semi- finals, so I am looking forward to winning with my team. We will come out working hard and hopefully move onto the sectional final,” said junior Taylor Diggs.
