The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys soccer team defeated St. Joseph’s (Metuchen) 4-1 on Oct. 22 at Wexler Field.
Seniors Jordan Cimring and Zach Halma both scored in the final five minutes of the first half to put the sluggish Raiders up 2-0 over the Falcons.
After St. Joe’s scored to make the score 2-1 about 17 minutes into the second half, the Raiders quickly responded. About a minute after the Falcons scored, senior Zach Cimring returned the Raiders lead to two goals when he scored.
Junior Robbie Viglione scored the fourth and final goal when he received a ball inside the box, worked to get some space from the defender and goalie, and chipped it over the goalies head.
Junior goalkeeper Sean Murray played very well in net, making many good stops. This included one incredible save on a one-on-one with a Falcon attacker.
Coach Tom Breznitsky was not thrilled with how the Raiders played, but he knew that the Raiders next game on Saturday against Summit in the Union County Tournament was in the team’s mind. “I know things like this sometimes happen,” he said, “we are looking over this game to Saturday.”
