After a tough game, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders football team lost to the Ridge Red Devils 47-14 on Sep. 12.
The Raiders fought through the first quarter after Ridge scored two touchdowns with two field goals. The second of their touchdowns was scored with just one minute left of the first quarter.
Despite a rocky start, the Raiders came back from two touchdowns. Marquel Taylor had both touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving. The game was tied 14-14 after the two extra point attempts were successful. Towards the end of the quarter, however, Ridge came back and scored two touchdowns.
Head Coach Jonathan Stack said, “The beginning of the game, we were very proud of our guys. We were down 14-0.We responded; got it to 14-14. The guys kept fighting, kept scrapping.”
In the third and fourth quarter, the Raiders continued to fight as the Red Devils scored two more touchdowns, ending the game 47-14.
Regarding the team’s lost, Stack said, “What I am proud about with the boys is that no matter what the score is, no matter what is going on, they keep playing for us.”
The football team will face North Hunterdon on Oct. 3.
