The Westfield Blue Devils scored two goals in the final 15 minutes against a ten-man Raider team to upset the Raiders 2-0 in front of a packed Wexler Field on Saturday.
The whole complexion of the game had changed with about 20 minutes to go in the second half when senior Zach Cimring received two yellow cards in a row by the referee, forcing the Raiders to play with ten men for the rest of the game.
“What effected the game were the two yellow cards on [Zach] Cimring, losing a man, going down a man,” coach Tom Breznitsky said “That’s what turned the game around.”
About six minutes after the sending off, Westfield scored when Michael Burle redirected a low cross into the back of the net.
The insurance goal was added about ten minutes later when Luke Beanulieu scored on a penalty kick.
The Raiders were not without chances of their own, but the problem for them was making the most of them.
“Our finishing was not good,” Breznitsky said, “We had opportunities throughout the game.”
The loss dropped the Raiders to 4-1 on the season.
