The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School girls soccer team continued their hot start to the seasonwith a 2-0 home victory over Governor Livingston.
Erika Muskus scored the first goal about ten minutes into the second half. Muskus had a breakaway opportunity and pushed the shot past the goalkeeper.
The second goal, scored by Annie Pierce with about 10 minutes left, put the nail in the coffin. After winning a corner, Sophie Brause played a ball into the box that Pierce slotted home for the insurance goal.
Defensively, the Raiders gave the Highlanders few opportunities and have yet to allow a goal on the season. “We played really well in the back and that helped maintain the shutout again,” junior goalkeeper Andrea Leitner said.
The Raiders had multiple opportunities throughout the game, with the most notable being a possible penalty in the first half. “We could have had two or three more goals throughout the whole game,” head coach Kevin Ewing said, “It’s just a matter of finishing our chances.”
