The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School girls soccer team kicked off their first home game of the season on Saturday, Sep. 12 with a 4-0 victory over Cranford.
All goals were scored in the first half. The first goal was headed into the net by senior Caroline Babis during the first ten minutes of the game.
The second goal was a penalty kick scored by junior Sophie Brause, followed by goals from sophomores Katie Mrozek and Erika Muskus.
Though the Raiders did not score in the second half, they held possession for much of the game and defended the goal expertly. Junior goalkeeper Andrea Leitner finished the game with seven saves, and the entire defense aggressively fended off Cranford’s advances.
Head Coach Kevin Ewing was proud of the entire team’s performance. “All of the girls came together and played really well, especially defensively” said Ewing.
The girls’ next game will be home against Governor Livingston on Thursday, Sep. 17.
