Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School’s Lady Raiders varsity basketball team defeated Union Catholic,44-35, in their 16th game of the 2013-2014 season.

Senior Katie Harper, the team’s captain, was the leading scorer of the game with 16 total baskets. Harper led the team to victory along with her teammate Thabitha Dwumfour, junior, who scored 9 total points and had two blocks in a row to prevent Union Catholic from tying the score in the fourth quarter.

“It is great knowing I  was able to help my team pull through for a win. It was hard for me in the beginning to get an offensive rhythm going, but it came in the end which is always good too,”said Dwumfour.

Scotch Plains trailed by one point at halftime with a score of 21 to Union Catholic’s 22. Amani Williams, sophmore, scored five points in the third quarter putting the Lady Raiders in the lead, where they remained for the rest of the game.

The Lady Raiders play Westfield Blue Devils this Saturday beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Scotch Plains-Fanwood  High School.
