On Monday the Scotch Plains-Fanwood bowling team participated in the Union County Tournament at Jersey Lanes. The team finished eighth in the county with a score of 2,500. To qualify for the next round, the team needed to finish in the top 6, so they were eliminated from contention.

Matthew Haas led the team with the high game of 233 and the high series of 633. The outstanding effort qualified him for the individual tournament, which will be held on Wednesday Jan. 29.

“I thought that I was throwing my strike ball [the first throw] very well,” said Matthew, “I consistently hit my mark so I consistently got a strike, which helped boost my score.”

“I thought Matthew bowled a great series,” said Coach Ryan Goracy, “It proved that he can play under pressure and I am proud of his efforts.”

The state tournament will be played this upcoming Monday, Feb. 3.
