Westfield traveled to Scotch Plains-Fanwood and beat the Raiders Friday night, 73-54.
Dylan Elliot and Parker Hess each scored ten points for the Blue Devils. Leo Ramos led SPF in scoring with nine points. SPF hit three buzzer beaters in the game two of which being half court shots by Dan Lopez and Emendo Thomas. Chris Gibbons hit a deep three at the end of the third quarter.
“What we need to do is learn not to get down on ourselves when we are behind in the beginning of the game and to keep fighting before it gets out of hand,” said Andrew Voysest.
The Raiders could not handle the full court press by Westfield causing them to turn the ball over on most of their possessions in the first half. The Blue Devils contained SPF to only seven points at the end of the first quarter. The Raiders fell into a 47-11 deficit midway through the second quarter. They tried to fight back into the game when they went on a 15-4 run from the end of the first half to the start of the third quarter. SPF couldn’t climb out of the hole they dug themselves and lost the game by a large margin.
Westfield’s record is now 6-5 while Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s record drops to 7-4. The Raiders travel to Rahway on Jan. 21 for their next game and the Blue Devils play Gov. Livingston on Jan. 21.
