Terrill Middle School music teacher John Gillick has been selected as one of 217 quarter-finalists for the first Music Educator Grammy Award. The award was created to honor music teachers who inspire students. The recipient of the award will win a $10,000 honorarium, and the other ten finalists will win a $1,000 honorarium. The finalists will also receive matching grants for their schools. A Terrill Middle School parent nominated Gillick, who was notified of the honor by the Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation in May. Gillick teaches seventh- and eighth-grade band as well as the high school jazz labs. He also serves as assistant director of the marching band.
The semi-finalists will be announced in August. The Grammy will be presented during Grammy Week, starting January 19 next year.
