On May 30 senior Christopher Stone attended a ceremonial tea at the Governor’s Mansion to accept the Spirit of a Hero Scholarship awarded by New Jersey Governor’s First Lady Mary Pat Christie. The $5000 scholarship is a part of Christie’s New Jersey Heroes Initiative, which is designed to recognize “everyday citizens in New Jersey who are doing extraordinary things.” Stone was one of 20 recipients to receive the award out of 700 applicants. The program awards students based on several criteria including demonstrated commitment to volunteerism and community contribution. He was accompanied by his family and marketing teacher Marjorie FitzGibbon as he accepted the honor.
