Bringing back the original star, Neve Campbell, who plays Sidney Prescott, this film takes her out of the quiet life she always yearned for and back into the spotlight. Once the new Ghostface begins to target her daughter, Tatum Evans (Isabel May), Sidney is forced to be brought back into the chaos after believing she left it all behind her.
On Feb. 27, 2026, Scream VII was released in theaters worldwide, grossing 97.2 million, breaking the record for the franchise on its debut weekend. Later on, the film will stream on Paramount+.
I loved that this movie teased the possibility of Stu Macher being alive, after assuming that he died in the first film, because a television set fell on his head. Sidney kept receiving FaceTime calls that were seemingly Stu, but they were revealed to be AI-generated as a manipulation tactic. However, theories online still thrive and are predicted to show up in Scream VIII.
This movie has been surrounded by major controversy with the firing of Melissa Barrera, a key role in Scream V and VI. She was fired due to her political beliefs. This caused several people to boycott the release of this movie, despite being loyal fans since the original film.
As always, there were multiple Ghostfaces, with there being three this time. For me, it was so unexpected for one of the killers to be the random psychiatric worker that we met only once before. Not just this, but his motive still confuses me, and he definitely should not have been a Ghostface.
However, the neighbor, Jessica Bowden, played by Anna Camp, was an amazing Ghostface. Her acting was impeccable, and she put up a very difficult fight for Sidney to beat. Although her explanation was bland, there was a shock factor when she took her mask off.
I loved that one of the Ghostfaces, Karl Gibbs, died immediately from being run over by Gale Weathers. I thought that this was incredible script writing and caught everyone off guard since the killers typically survive up until the third act.
Overall, this film was definitely not my favorite, only because of the poorly written Ghostface reveals. However, the script as a whole was very unpredictable, and I enjoyed the plot.
Sidney Prescott (now Evans) remains the final girl once again, except she now survives with her daughter. Many fans question whether this will be the end of the franchise…but we will have to wait and see.
