Double Jelly, located at 34 South Martine Ave, is a cafe that recently opened in the downtown Fanwood area. Dec. 20, 2025 marked the ribbon cutting ceremony, where Fanwood mayor Colleen Mahr, Councilmembers Gina Berry, Jeff Banks and Patricia Walsh and members of the Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon.

Double Jelly is Asian-inspired, with drinks like bubble tea and matcha on the menu. They also serve shaved ice and other sweet, soft drinks. It is a modern dessert- and cafe-style establishment. This style of eatery is unique to the Fanwood area, as well as the larger Scotch Plains-Fanwood community.

Dirty sodas have become increasingly popular in recent years, and Double Jelly has hopped on the trend.

I tried the “Starburst”, a dirty soda with Sprite, watermelon, pineapple and half and half. It tasted similar to an energy drink, with its sparkling and refreshing taste. My favorite part was the sour cherry popping boba in the drink that added the perfect amount of unique texture and sweetness to the drink.

Bubble tea, a drink that originated in Taiwan, is a staple at Double Jelly.

I also tried the “Strawberry Yakult Bubble Tea,” made with fresh strawberries, green tea, a probiotic drink called “Yakult,” and tapioca pearls. Its rich flavor was unique and unlike anything I’ve tasted–a delightful combination of fruity and herbal tones. The sturdy, reusable cup the drink came in also added positively to my experience.

Their menu also serves croffles, a croissant-waffle hybrid. Double Jelly’s unique menu is truly intriguing.

As for the interior of Double Jelly, it was a warm, bubbly environment. The modern approach to the space matched well with the modern drink flavors and styles.

My experience at Double Jelly was overall very positive. I especially enjoyed trying the new flavors, and introducing myself to a new combination of cultures. I give Double Jelly 5/5 stars.
