On Thursday, Oct. 23., Nobody Wants This, a fan-favorite show created by Erin Foster, premiered their second season exclusively on Netflix.
Nobody Wants This is a romantic comedy that follows a quirky couple, Noah and Joanne. On one hand, Joanne, played by Kristen Bell, is a cynical podcaster that refuses to believe that good men exist. While Noah Roklov, played by Adam Brody, is a newly-single charming rabbi that is seen as a hopeless romantic. With two total opposites coming together into one relationship, it brings obstacles neither one of them are prepared to face.
In season two, we see two lovebirds have a very difficult time deciding how to handle problems within their relationship and try their best to avoid them. As both their worlds begin to collide, Noah starts to doubt if Joanne’s conversion journey to Judaism will ever finish which leads to their downfall across the ten episodes.
In the midst of this drama, the audience gets a glimpse of Sasha Roklov (Timothy Simons), and Esther Roklov (Jackie Tohn), struggling through their own marital problems. Despite being married with a child, Esther makes the choice to end their marriage, deciding that she and Sasha were never the perfect match.
If it wasn’t complicated enough, Morgan (Justine Lupe) shocks everyone with the reveal of her new “serious” relationship with…her therapist. Joanne, acting stubborn, wouldn’t give up the assumption that they were moving too fast, as they went from boyfriend-girlfriend, to engagement, and then almost marriage. However, Morgan makes the tough choice to end the relationship during their engagement party.
In episode five of the series, fans, including me, were thrilled to see the beloved Gossip Girl star, and Brody’s wife in real life, Leighton Meester. She played a character named Abby, an unrealistic influencer of whom Joanne and Morgan envied as children.
Now, how did the crazy series finale end? Surprisingly, Joanne makes the life-changing decision to convert, not just for Noah, but for herself. At the end of the day, she realized that even without Noah in her life, she enjoyed being a part of the Jewish community, which in my opinion, was long overdue.
Once I finished this chaotic series, my jaw was practically on the floor. Some of the supposedly “strong” relationships this season began with came crashing down at one point or another.
I enjoyed the soundtrack of the series, as it featured songs like, “Sunset Blvd,” by Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, and “…Ready for it,” by Taylor Swift that were perfect complements to how the characters felt in those moments.
Without a doubt, I hope we can expect a season three of this wonderful series, as it left us on a cliffhanger with some storylines that never were fixed and need a deeper explanation.
Overall, I thought this season had the perfect mix of romance and chaos all at once, which is why I would give the series four out of five stars. I didn’t give it a perfect score because I did not love the way it ended, it felt abrupt and unresolved, but it did leave me wanting more.
