Every October, a simple amusement park transforms into a Halloween-themed wonderland. With a spooky makeover, the park becomes the grounds for a night of fun and fright.
Fright Fest is an annual Halloween festival hosted at the popular amusement park: Six Flags Great Adventure. The event features haunted rides and scare actors, along with other attractions the park has to offer. Once the day turns dark, the park transforms into another world with fog machines and eerie music playing on the walkways to set the tone for a visitors’ night.
Introduced in 1992, the event has been a staple for decades, drawing the park’s largest crowds of the year. Its success comes from the creation of a haunted and spooky atmosphere, making it a one-of-a-kind experience for all guests.
This atmosphere has become the most notable feature for visitors. Because of its contrast with a typical amusement park, people find it the most remarkable.
“I think that the atmosphere change is very spooky and cool, it made the experience very fun for me,” junior Matthew Fonder told The Fanscotian.
One attraction unique to Fright Fest is the parade that occurs every night. The parade marches through the park with scare actors, carriages and vehicles to mark the beginning of the evening’s festivities. The event ramps up excitement for a visitors’ night of thrills and scares.
The festival has been the community’s favorite destination for a Halloween trip with family or friends. The event offers jaw-dropping roller coasters for adrenaline seekers, but also scare actors and haunted attractions for those looking for a fright.
“I would recommend it because it’s the big event that people go to every year, and it’s been fun every time I’ve been there,” senior James Gardella said.
Being a reasonable drive from SPF, Fright Fest has been a reliable trip for getting into the Halloween mood. It’s typical for people to visit every year because of its proximity and festive energy, making it a perfect tradition for the season.
When you step into the dark and spooky yet exhilarating park that is Fright Fest, it’s clear why it’s the favorite choice for an October trip. Throughout the roller coasters, haunted houses and scare actors around the park, Fright Fest keeps Halloween tradition alive and earns its place as the go-to for a Halloween-themed excursion with family or friends.
