Students Change Hunger is a friendly competition where food drives and fundraisers are held in schools to help feed people throughout New Jersey. The Community Foodbank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) has members who try to get their school involved and spread the word about the drive in order to collect the most amount of food possible.
Lauren Fleckenstein, a senior and CBFNJ Students Change Hunger Ambassador is currently planning on spreading the word about the completion.
“I want to get SPFHS involved because I know how capable this school is in raising food and donations as we are a big school,” Fleckenstein said. “I also just want to raise more awareness towards struggles such as financial struggles.”
Fleckenstein stresses that any donation is valuable and even one can of food can make a difference.
“In the future, I hope to raise at least 500 canned goods by the time the competition ends. Anyone is able to help with the drive and donations are open to everyone,” Fleckenstein said.
The competition is underway and it is planned to end early Jan., next year. Throughout this year, Fleckenstein and other students plan to put boxes around the main entrances of the school. The boxes will be open for anyone to donate until the food bank collects the items in Jan.
“In the past two years I’ve been a part of the Teen Leadership Council in which I learned about Students Change Hunger,” junior Emily McCall said. “I thought it was a great way for our school to get connected.”
This is a good opportunity for students and staff to come together and help those in New Jersey who are struggling. All students and teachers are able to donate anything they would like and even the smallest donations can have the biggest impact.
