Here in the Northeast, there are few of us who really appreciate country music, not that we have much opportunity to find it. Unless you’ve grown up with it, country music might sound like a barn full of hillbillies heading for a hoedown. Northerners don’t realize that much of the popular music on the radio is country influenced, or crossover country; Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean and The Band Perry are all artists prominent on both the top-40 and the country music charts.
The Fanscotian asked some students to compare the mainstream hits to lesser-known country tunes in the hope that even the most stubborn of listeners will enjoy the songs of the South.
