Katherine Chouinard broke a school record in the Union County Championships for winter (indoor) track and field events on Monday Feb. 17, 2020.
Those competing included almost all of the basic track and field events: shot put, pole vaulting, long jump, high jump, 55m hurdles, various distance meter races and 4×400 meter relays. The field events go on at the same time as the track events with the field events all taking place on the inside of the oval made by the track.
At this event, Katherine Chouinard won second place, breaking a school record.
“I won second place and broke SPF’s school recond for girls indoor (winter) pole vaulting,” Chouinard said. “I jumped 9ft at this event.”
Ian Celardo also got second place in the boys pole vaulting. Overall, it was a very positive outcome for the SPFHS winter track and field team.
At this point in the year there is only NJSIAA Group III Individuals, Monmouth Night of Miles and NJSIAA Meet of Champions left for certain people on the track team. Chouinard is competing in NJSIAA Group III Individuals this upcoming Saturday Feb. 29.
