Two recent graduates appeared in an audition on the Sept. 10 episode of NBC’s The Voice, a singing-talent contest show. Julia Babis and Maddie Dillon, both class of 2011 and current students at SUNY New Paltz, sang for producers in New York City and then traveled to Universal Studios in Los Angeles for the show’s taping. While they did not make it through the blind audition round, and were seen for only seconds on the air, both aspiring singers appreciated the opportunity. “We got to experience some new and amazing things: We got our hair and makeup done by award-winning stylists, and Cee Lo Green called us beautiful,” said Babis, “It didn’t have the desired outcome, but we became stronger as artists and learned a little more about the business side of music.”
