On Oct. 23, senior baseball player and Fanscotian sports editor Alex Bolton announced his commitment to Fairleigh Dickinson University at the Florham campus in Madison, New Jersey. Playing varsity baseball both his sophomore and junior years, Bolton was swayed to FDU due to the baseball program and education the school offers.
“I decided to commit to FDU because they have a new coach who seemed really interested in me, and they have a business school where I feel that I could thrive,” Bolton told The Fanscotian.
Fairleigh Dickinson University has two campuses in New Jersey, one being the Florham campus which houses the Devils who play at the Division III level in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC). Competing against the likes of Arcadia, Drew and Lesley, the FDU Devils compiled a record of 19-23 in their 2025 campaign. Now with first year head coach Garret deMarrias, FDU looks to have their first season over .500 since 2022.
“I feel like I can make an impact with the team while playing in a competitive conference,” Bolton said.
Bolton, who plays second base, outfield and also pitches, has a high school career batting average of .328, and has been a key member on the diamond for SPF. On the bump, Bolton’s 1.56 ERA speaks to his dominance during his junior season where he pitched 18 innings while only allowing four earned runs.
For Bolton, playing baseball at the next level has always been a dream of his, and once he graduates he will be able to live out his childhood wishes.
“Since middle school I knew I was serious about baseball and it was something I love to do,” Bolton said. “Committing to playing in college is really a big deal for me and it was definitely me accomplishing a lifelong goal.”
During his high school years, Bolton has had the privilege of being a part of talented Raider baseball teams who have competed in the highly competitive Union County Conference. In Bolton’s eyes, his high school playing days have been defined by the teammates he has taken the field with, some of whom he has been playing with for many years.
“My favorite part about high school baseball has been the people on the team and the camaraderie,” Bolton said. “A lot of people on the team are good friends that I’ve played with for a while now and we’ve had some good years together.”
Despite still having one more season left as a Raider, Bolton is already looking forward to suiting up as a FDU Devil and competing on the collegiate level.
“In college baseball, I hope to win a MAC championship at FDU and consistently contribute in the lineup for the team,” Bolton said.
