On Dec. 2, junior goalie Elissa Steingart announced her commitment to Lasell University. Steingart felt a strong connection to the school based on their athletics, but also was encouraged to commit due to academics.
“[Lasell] had my major. I’m going into fashion merchandising and they have one of the top programs there,” Steingart told The Fanscotian.
Steingart has been in net for the Raiders since her freshman year and has tallied 206 saves while repping the blue and white jersey. Steingart is eager to join the Lasell girls lacrosse program and make her mark in college lacrosse.
“[I want] to be playing, making friends with the team and just have a great time,” Steingart said.
Located in Newton, Massachusetts, Lasell University is a private university founded in 1851. With popular majors of communication, psychology and criminology, Lasell has a diverse set of options for all students. The Lasell Lasers girls lacrosse team competes in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on the Division III level against teams like Fitchburg State, Johnson & Wales and Salem State.
In the 2023-2024 season, the Lasers made it to the first round of the GNAC tournament, while boasting eight wins to their name throughout the season. Despite the fact Steingart has two more seasons as a Raider before heading off to college, her skills will be seen once she steps onto the field as a Laser.
A key part of the SPF girls lacrosse team, Steingart was able to be a constant force in net for the Raiders and helped bring them to a 9-9 record in her sophomore year. Making it to the quarterfinal round of the county tournament, Steingart had six games where she racked up over ten saves. Most notably in a game against Cranford, Steingart had 13 saves in a narrow 9-8 victory.
Even though Steingart is only a junior, she can already fathom what she will miss most about her time at SPFHS once she graduates.
“[I am going to miss] all of the friends I made and all of my teammates,” Steingart said.
Through her own recruiting experience, Steingart was able to learn more about herself and college athletics and offered advice to all other aspiring college athletes.
“Don’t give up. Recruiting is very tough and stressful–but keep pushing because it will happen,” Steingart said.
