Girls Lacrosse junior captain Juliana Doran recorded her 100th career goal on Tuesday, April 2 as the Raiders won 8-7 against Mount St. Mary in their season opener. Doran is the fourth player in the program to reach 100 goals.
“[It] definitely feels special to be one of four players in this school to reach 100 goals. I am excited about this accomplishment, but I am confident I can hit another milestone in my high school career,” Doran told The Fanscotian.
Doran has always had a knack for scoring goals, tallying 79 goals last spring and 17 her freshman year. She surpassed 2020 graduate Elle Priesing for the most goals scored in a single season. While putting up the most goals in a single season, she also recorded 15 hat tricks and had five or more goals in 10 out of 18 games last year.
“Juliana puts a tremendous amount of work in during the offseason and on her own time, which sets her apart from other players. She is always looking to get better,” head coach Virginia Schoenhaus said.
With the fast play on the field of a typical lacrosse game, shooting requires very precise timing and accuracy. Doran focuses more on where she places her shots rather than how much power she puts into them.
“To improve my shooting ability, I focus most on my form and placement of my shots. I focus more on the accuracy than the power [and] speed of my shots. On my own, I work on dodging, beating people [one on one] and getting my shots off as soon as my hands are free,” Doran said.
The Raiders are four games into the spring season with a record of 2-2. Doran leads the team with 22 goals and is on pace to score 99 goals.
“In these next two seasons, I am going to try to hit 270 goals in my high school career. As a team, I hope we continue to grow the program and make a name for ourselves,” Doran said.
In only two seasons, Doran has recorded historic numbers for the SPF program, shaping her as one of the best to play the game for the school.
“It is always great to see your players reach their goals and milestones they set for themselves and it’s impressive that she hit [100 goals] at the beginning of her junior season,” Schoenhaus said.
