Beyond the Book Club Book Drive Read Across America Day is this Tuesday, March 2, and Beyond the Book Club is honoring it by hosting a book drive. It is the first book drive the club has initiated.
In Beyond the Book Club, students create language arts mini-lessons to present to the YMCA after-care programs once a month. Students interested in joining the club should contact Gabrielle Klausner at [email protected].
“This is a great club for students who are passionate about creativity and would like to make a positive impact on our community,” said junior and Beyond the Book Club member Gabrielle Klausner.
Read Across America Day takes place on Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the National Education Association created elementary-friendly activity ideas for the whole week. These activities include reading buddies, cooking green eggs and ham and going on a trip to a bookstore. The day and activities are all about children reading books.
The book drive began Feb. 25 and will continue until March 1, the day before Read Across America Day. A collection box is located in the library for book donations. The club is collecting new and gently used children’s books. All books donated will be sent to Better World Books. The online bookseller donates books and a part of its profits to literacy programs worldwide to help those in need.
Donate a book today and do not forget to read on Read Across America Day!
