This week SPFHS had its first spirit week of the year. The week was full of fun themes, involved students and a lot of Raider pride. Spirit week was run by the Student Government Association (SGA).
“I think it’s essential that students participate in spirit week because it gets the entire student body involved in a way that represents us as a school, ” sophomore SGA officer Rohan Shah said. “Not only that, but it creates a certain electricity among the students.”
Monday, Oct. 22 was stars and stripes day. Students came to school in red, white, and blue for the day’s pep rally. The pep rally opened up with a performance by the cheerleaders and was followed up by performances by the Blue Diamond Step Team and the Raiders Dance Team. Emcees Jack Cosmer and Justin Walsh hosted the pep rally and announced the nominees for homecoming on Friday, Oct. 26.
The nominees for Homecoming King are Michael Dieu, James Bagdonas, Zachary Evangelista and Noah Costanzo. The nominees for Homecoming Queen are Sofia Iacona, Ava Leichtling, Persis Baah, Rosemarie Barnes-Lilye and Casey Ferguson. Students voted during their first-period class throughout the week, and the winners will be announced at the homecoming game on Friday.
Tuesday was pajama day. The hallways were full of students in sweatpants and hoodies, enjoying the school day in their comfiest clothes.
In honor of Breast Cancer awareness month, Wednesday, Oct. 24 was a pink out. Students had pink shirts, jackets and other pink clothes.
Thursday was tropical Thursday. The students of SPFHS had on Hawaiian shirts and leis, and they looked ready for a vacation.
Finally, Friday, was Raider day. The halls were blue and white for the homecoming game happening after school. The Raider’s football team is playing New Brunswick at home at 3:00 pm. Students are encouraged to go out and support the Raiders!
