On Monday January 8th, 2018 members of Future Business Leaders of America and Distributive Education Clubs of America, as well as students in the marketing business classes at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School took a trip to Rutgers University in New Brunswick to participate in Junior Achievement”s Professional Development Day. Junior Achievement of New Jersey is a nonprofit that aims to aid in student’s success through the help of a hands on curriculum outside of the classroom. Alexa Anselmo and Cheryl Schnieder, executive members of FBLA are also members of JA’s Student Leadership committee and helped put on the event.
“The goal of the program was to educate high school students that are interested in business to reach their full potential” Anselmo said.
The students first attended a panel to talk with college students who are members of the various business clubs that Rutger’s offers. Students were able to ask business major questions about how being apart of each particular club can help with networking, as well as what advantages it can give to someone pursuing a degree in business. The students then attended different workshops put on by Rutgers students. The workshops offered were Networking and Personal Brand, Social Media and Professional Linkedin, Business Major Exploration.
“I think that the event was really enriching to people’s networking skills and helped them to figure out the career paths they may want to pursue,” Schnieder said.
