On Oct 21 runners young and old  lined up for the Fanwood 5K. For the 7th year in a row, experienced runners and new bee’s ran around Fanwood’s downtown.  While the route was the same as always, this was the first year that the race was held as an afternoon event.
The theme for this year was Superheroes and many runners showed their spirit with comic inspired running attire. For the family fun run, little Superman’s and Wonder Woman’s were everywhere getting ready for the race.
The weather was nothing less than perfect, with an unusually hot day for October. It was sunny and 80 degrees for this batch of runners. The overall winner of the 5K was Dan Jablon of Fanwood, with a time of 19:11. The first place female runner was Ashka You of Plainfield, with a time of 23.02. The runners were met with fresh bagels and fruit provided by the Fanwood Recreation Council. The event was put on by the Fanwood Recreation Commission with support from many volunteers, Mayor Colleen Mahr and the Fanwood Borough Council.
Scotch Plains Fanwood FBLA showed their support with supplying over 20 volunteers to monitor the race as well as selling Raider gear.
