On Dec. 23, 2025, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys swimming team faced off against longtime rival Westfield and won, 86.5-83.5.
The score remained close throughout the entire meet, with neither team gaining large advantages over each other heading into the last event. At the highest stakes, the final relay was the deciding factor of the meet.
In the end, SPF secured the win, capturing a memorable achievement for teammates and families. This victory was the first time SPF had beaten Westfield in 14 years, defying all expectations.
“Going into the last event we knew we were down but we felt confident and we were just trying to stay hyped,” junior Alexander Holston told The Fanscotian.
The victory was the result of strong performances across multiple swimmers across all events that had enough to keep up, and eventually surpass, Westfield. The dramatic finish highlights the team’s determination for success and the work they’ve put in.
“What secured us the win in that relay was our dedication and perseverance,” sophomore EJ Coville said.
This hard-fought win marks an exciting moment in the swim season, and gives the team momentum to keep moving forward.
