As Saint Patrick’s Day approaches, so does spirit week

On March 14, spirit week will commence and excited students will evade the halls at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.

The Junior Student Council is responsible for the preparation of this upcoming spirit week.  The executive board of the Class of 2023 Student Council includes President Gabrielle Smulewitz, Vice President Danielle Most, Secretary Jordana Reisberg and Treasurer Ava Billotto.

Billotto mentioned how Tik Tok served as inspiration when thinking of different themes for each day of spirit week. There are many Tik Tok trends which will contribute heavily to student participation, such as anything but a backpack.

“Sometimes student participation is a little hard so we actually have a prize,” Billotto told The Fanscotian. “There is going to be a gift card as a prize for the most spirited [student].”

To kick off the week, Monday is Groufit day. All students are encouraged to dress in gray attire. Tuesday is Preppy day, so prepare to see lots of ties and buttoned-up shirts.

On Wednesday, SPFHS heads West. Students will be dressing in cowboy and cowgirl attire. As we celebrate Saint Patrick’s day on Thursday, the whole school will be filled with green clothing.

To close spirit week, there will not be a backpack on site. Students will be carrying their books in anything from a suitcase to a microwave.

“I think it’s really important that we realize that we are all on the same team, we’re all united, we’re all doing something together,” Billotto said. “So for one week out of the year we can all show our togetherness and unity through our outfits.”
