The SPFHS Ice Hockey team’s season concluded on Friday, Feb. 14 with a 5-0 loss against Cranford in the first round of the Kelly cup. The team faced setbacks due to injuries to key players, during their unfortunate 6-24 season. Despite the tough season, they are optimistic about their potential for next year and they are proud of the hard work this winter.
The team also plans on incorporating more team building activities before the season starts. Also, to improve their skills and team chemistry with one another, they hope to study some film of their games, and have team film sessions.
The team captain and center Will Mauer shared a favorite memory from this winter’s games.

“In a game vs Watchung Hills, we were down 2-0 and then 3-2 but we came back to win,” junior Will Mauer said.  “I had 4 points in that game and that was a huge win…We were down 3-2 with 5 minutes left and I scored right over the goalies shoulder and once again we gained momentum and we were all celebrating like crazy. With a minute left we had a power play and I made a play in the corner. We got the puck in front and we scored the game winner with a minute left. It was so exciting.”

The team aims to build off of great wins like these for next year.
