Last Saturday, April 27th, the SPF Moonglowers took home the gold at the State Jazz Finals Competition held in Princeton High School.
Having previously placed second in preliminaries, between the Princeton Jazz Studio and the Princeton Jazz Ensemble, the SPF Moonglowers won first place and took home gold in the NJ State Finals, along with winning a multitude of awards and scholarships individually.
Senior Alan Romero won the best soloist award, which senior Stephen Oduro won the $700 Richard A. Graham Scholarship for his impressive skills behind the drums.
The band also won the best trumpet section award, along with the award for best saxophone section as well.
“We brought this band up from the ashes,” Senior Alan Romero said. “Through a lot of really hard work, we had a golden performance and gave the future of the SPF music department a bright legacy to continue.”
The SPF music department hopes to continue to strive for the excellence that it is known for and exhibited at this competition to finish their competitive season.
