Muse held their bi-annual open mic night last Friday, January 11th. The talent and comedy presented during the night was outstanding and very amusing to watch. It was held in the cafeteria and not only was it a time to enjoy the performers, but also to socialize and have a great time with friends and peers.
Muse holds this event as a fundraiser for their club. Throughout the year they gather poems, short stories, photographs and artworks to showcase in their end of the year magazine that’s distributed to the student body.
At the event, Muse had a mic stand set up in front of the room, for anyone who wanted to go up and preform. At the tables, there were snacks being sold (with those funds also going towards the Muse magazine) and sheets of white paper covering the tables with crayons provided.
On this night, students were able to express their creativity both in front of the group at the mic and through their artwork on the tables. The fun and light atmosphere also allowed for students to feel welcome and comfortable with expressing themselves. More students were able to walk up to the mic and sing or tell a joke in an environment like this, as opposed to one of high pressure, which is another reason why open mic night is especially looked forward to.
Some performance highlights include senior Chris Bagdonas singing a comedic acoustic version of “Mo Bamba” by Sheck Wes, with Josh Venick playing the guitar. The fan favorite performance was an ukulele trio consisting of seniors Vanessa Handy, Tori O’Conner and Alex Fishman singing “You and I” by Ingrid Michaelson.
“It went really great,” co-editor-in-chief of the publication Molly Ryan said. “We were super happy with the turnout. We hope to have another one soon!”
The night ended as a huge success, with many of the attendees saying that they’ll definitely be attending the next one. Muse meets every Tuesday in Mrs. Zarr’s room. Seniors Molly Ryan or Alex Fishman can be contacted for more info on upcoming events.
