On Friday, Oct. 26, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School hosted a door decorating contest for all classes to participate in to spread school spirit for homecoming week.
The contest was a fun opportunity for students and staff to get involved and to express their creativity. Numerous classes participated in this contest in hopes of receiving the bagel breakfast prize awarded to the winner.
The past two or three years, the contest did not happen due to safety concerns that the decorations may cause; however, the contest is now back for its fourth year in hopes of bringing out school spirit in the student body and staff.
“The contest is something a little bit different from our norm, and by October, I think some of us already feel like we’re in a rut, so it’s just something to change it up,” Mrs. Freudenfels, history teacher and organizer of the contest, said.
Varieties of themed doors were spotted around the school. Whether the door was spooky in light of the Halloween season, represented different subjects in a fun way or displayed SPFHS alumni, each door was different from the next.
At the end of the day, one door stood out from the rest. Mrs. Robertson’s room, which was decorated with high school pictures of the staff who are also alumni at SPFHS, was awarded with their own bagel breakfast.
The contest was able to fully capture the school’s pride, spark students creativity and start friendly competition among the classrooms, making the contest a success throughout the staff and student body.
