Prom season is in full swing, and the class of 2019 student council has been working hard getting ready for the junior prom. Ticket sales began Thursday, April 12 and ended Monday, April 16. Students have been gathering their friends to organize their prom tables, finding dresses and tuxes, proposing, and all the other fun preparations for the event.
While juniors are getting their tasks done, the students council has been planning since January to make sure prom runs smoothly. This includes ordering and organizing decorations, and making sure that the club has enough funds to ensure a fun night for the grade.
“[So far] we have done fundraisers in preparation for prom, chosen a theme and ordered most of the decorations to go with the Fantasy Knights theme and other things we need to decorate,” Julia Lomonte, junior class student council Vice President said. “We have also designed and ordered the tickets for our ticket sales”
In terms of completed tasks, the council is right on track with deadlines, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Most students don’t recognize how much preparation there really is to an event like this.
“A lot of planning goes into prom,” Lomonte said. “There is a lot to organize in order to make sure that everything is ready for prom, and it’s a lot of fun to get everything together!
Currently, finalizing the color theme, picking out and ordering decorations and gathering ticket sales is well underway. Fundraising has also been a big task, that they have been doing throughout the year.
“Some of the fundraisers we have done this year we’re selling water bottles at Back to School night, an SPF apparel sale, a stuffed animal sale for the holidays and the annual Valentine’s Day flower sale,” Lomonte said.
There are many time consuming tasks that the students have been working on, not including their own personal preparations for prom. But that doesn’t stop them from getting it done while still maintaining a sense of enjoyment and enthusiasm.
“At times, the process can get a little bit stressful, just because we all want to make sure everything goes well,” Lomonte said. “But overall, I would say the mood in student council is excited. Getting all the decorations and other preparations done is really fun, and everyone is really excited for prom.”
The club is making great progress, and as of today, completed another task, which is the ticket sales. That means that the number of attendees can be determined, which will greatly help the student council move forward in the process. The class of 2019 student council is working hard to make sure they create an enjoyable and unforgettable night for the juniors of SPF!
