On Feb. 2, 2018 the SPFHS Student Movement Against Cancer held their annual in-school kickoff for Relay for Life.
The theme for Relay 2018 was revealed during kickoff. This year’s theme is Hawaiian, and the event is being called “Re-LEI for Life”.
The kickoff consisted of a series of spirited relay races. Participants were split up by grade and competed against each other to win free prizes- tee shirts, bracelets, and various gift cards.
Participants had to wear hula skirts and leis, play pineapple bowling, flamingo ring toss, cornhole, and limbo.
“The energy was really high and everything went super smoothly,” senior Shakir Philippe said.
For an extra twist, four seniors competed against four physical education teachers during period 7-8. In the end, the seniors took the win.
Following the relay races, limbo contests and hula hoop contests took place.
Kickoff also informed students of the importance of Relay for Life. Students were encouraged to join SMAC on the football field on May 11th, 2018 from 6pm to 6am to raise money for cancer research.
“We had a lot of student participation and hopefully everyone will come out to the event in May,” senior Sara Banasiak said.
