On Jan, 18th, the students in both concert choir and band took a trip to New York City. The students saw the musical “Aladdin” at the New Amsterdam theater.
The purpose of the trip was for music department students to see a professional show to experience their own interests in a professional environment.
“The trip was really fun because Broadway exposes music kids to what we might want to do with our lives,” sophomore Danielle Vuono said.
Many students found their favorite part to be “Friend Like Me”. This song was performed by the genie, played by James Monroe Iglehart. The students found him to be the most amusing character in the show.
“The genie was my favorite character because he was hilarious throughout the whole show,” Vuono said.
Students also enjoyed being right in the middle of Time Square. They had lots of picture opportunities for memories of the trip. Some even captioned their Instagram posts with puns from the musical, using song lyrics from “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me”.
All students enjoyed seeing the Disney classic performed on the Broadway stage.
