On Jan. 5, 2018, 54 delegates from the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School delegation drove to Hershey Lodge to take part in the annual Model United Nations conference. The conference, which lasted from Jan. 5 – 7, hosted a number of schools from New Jersey, New York, and Delaware.
The theme or the conference his year was human rights. Each activity the delegates took part in during the weekend tied back to the underlying theme of global human rights, which made delegates more aware of the problems in the countries that they were representing.
The delegates from SPFHS ran from conference to conference, participating in debates from the point of view of the countries that they were assigned. Throughout each of the conferences, the delegates got the opportunity to make their voices heard.
Before arriving to conference, all the schools participating in the conference collected bandages for people in third world countries for the annual service project that the organization runs. After all of the bandages were compiled, nearly a million were collected for those in need.
Through all the resolution writing and commotion that the weekend consisted of, the MUN love was felt all around the lodge. The atmosphere of the conference was filled with positivity and joy, as students were all there to make a change around the world, whether it be big or small.
The weekend as a whole was a success, with the delegates leaving to go back home on Jan. 7.
