All over the world, people recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a month where communities come together to fundraise for those affected by breast cancer. No matter how small, anyone can make a contribution. Want to make a difference here in Scotch Plains-Fanwood? You can participate in any of the following ways.
1.) Buy a homecoming tee shirt.
The Student Movement Against Cancer and the Raiders Cheerleading team come together to sell homecoming tee shirts every year in order to raise money for cancer and show spirit at the homecoming game. For $15, you can purchase the pink tee shirt and contribute to the cause!
2.) Start a Relay for Life Team
Relay for Life takes place in the middle of May at SPFHS, but it’s never too early to get started! With a group of friends, you can begin your relay team online (http://main.acsevents.org) and ask family and friends for donations, or go out to create your own fundraisers.
3.) Participate in the Scotch Plains walk for breast cancer research.
This walk is taking place on October 14th at 430 Park Avenue. Prior to the walk, you can register for $15, and for $20 on the day of the walk. Grab a few friends, put on some pink, and come down to support the worthy cause. You’ll be making a difference while getting a workout and having fun!
4.) Attend the homecoming game and buy pink powder.
SMAC will be holding a powder table at the homecoming football game on October 28th. You can throw the powder at certain points during the game to support the Raiders and to fundraise simultaneously. Come buy the festive pink powder to raise money for breast cancer, take cool pictures, and show your school spirit.
